SCE Publishing Ghostbusters *IN EUROPE AND ONLY IN EUROPE*

SCE Publishing Ghostbusters *IN EUROPE AND ONLY IN EUROPE*

Update: Atari US says they’re publishing all versions of Ghostbusters in the US, and by default, that’s the version we’re getting anyways. So yeah: USA! USA! #1

Sony Computer Entertainment’s picking up the tab for Terminal Reality’s beleaguered next-gen Ghostbusters title, which has been cancelled, renamed, and switched publishers far too many times than I can remember already.

Developer Zootfly was initially working on a Ghostbusters title (without even securing the license yet, good job), and showed promising footage back in 2006. After failing to secure the movie’s license from Sony Pictures, they have since rechristened their game as TimeO. Sierra and Terminal Reality then met with Sony the next year to begin work on their own Ghostbusters title, which got shelved indefinitely when Viviendi merged with Activision in 2008. Then Atari picked up the game later in the year before Sony chipped in and said, “Hey, we actually own the license—why not make it a timed exclusive?”

GamesIndustry.biz broke the story earlier today, and Sony has apparently locked Ghostbusters in as a timed exclusive for both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable. Atari’s been tight-lipped so far on the fate of the 360, Wii, and DS versions; but it is understood that Atari may publish them after the exclusivity lifts.
