Megaton: Final Fantasy XIV Announced, PS3/PC Exclusive (Updated)

In a surprising (read: not leaked) announcement made by [President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America] Jack Tretton on their Sony E3 presscon after presenting a new trailer for Final Fantasy XIII, the next chapter of the franchise was revealed!

More images and a trailer after the break!

Final Fantasy XIV was announced as a PS3 exclusive and judging from the full title “Final Fantasy XIV Online“, will be an MMORPG like FFXI was. And just like FFXI was, the presented trailer showed FFXIV has a medieval sword and sorcery setting as opposed to FFXIII’s sci-fi atmosphere. There’s also a tagline “A new online epic begins.”

It was also announced that FFXIV will launch in 2010.

Hell yes. Nobody saw this coming.

UPDATE: Final Fantasy XIV will be released on PS3 and PC. Sorry 360 guys.

Enjoy the trailer and images from the gallery.
