Kojima: MGS Peace Walker is Metal Gear Solid 5… Technically
This week’s issue of Weekly Famitsu features a short interview with Metal Gear daddy Hideo Kojima on his upcoming PSP title, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Kojima discusses several interesting points and clarifies a bit of the narrative details, and how it’ll tie in to the Metal Gear saga. Peace Walker, for all intents and purposes, is Portable Ops 2 (which, by the way, I totally called), but Kojima explained that it will be “[...] the MGS 5 [he has] in mind.”
Peace Walker expounds on Snake’s (Big Boss) exploits during the mid-70s, a part of the Metal Gear saga that has not been explored yet. Set in a war-torn, fictional version of Costa Rica, Snake sets out to the Central American country — one without a formal military — and establishes a new army without military alliances to help them out. This army would later become Outer Heaven.
Peace Walker isn’t just some random title Kojima threw up because it sounded cool. Rather, peace will be the game’s main trope — there will be a lot of anti-war sentiments strewn throughout the game; very indicative of the period the game’s set at. Will we see Snake smoking some ganja? Only time will tell.
The next bit of interesting info Kojima shares is that he won’t be doing any more games based on Solid Snake: Metal Gear Solid 4 was indeed Solid Snake’s last mission. Unless Kojima’s planning on some Gran Torino-style shenanigans, the producer commented that he’s done with Solid Snake “because he’s an old man now.”
Finally, Kojima mentioned that Metal Gear Solid Rising will be a “different kind of action game,” something that I’m sure most of us have already gathered given that Raiden’s ninja-like exploits in Metal Gear Solid 4 weren’t exactly stealthy.

Metal Gear: Gran Torino is a cool idea, actually. I’d hit it.
