Mortal Kombat 9 to be M-Rated, Back to Hyperviolence

Mortal Kombat fans, are you still even out there? If so, the bunch of you left should be happy to hear this little bit of news. After the little experiment that was the Teen-rated Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Mortal Kombat series creator Ed Boon has confirmed on his Twitter stream that the part nine (!) of the hyperviolent fighter will be more of a return to form, and will feature more of the same brutal thrills we have come to recognize the series for. Writing in rather crude twitter-speak, Boon has noted that they are in the middle of motion capturing some rather grotesque new fatalities for the game’s next entry.

“Motion capturing special moves & fatalities today….they are kind of sick !!,” “Carlos & Rick O. doin some kool fatalities. I hope we aren’t taking these too far. :(,” Boon writes. And finally, to top it off, he answers back to an administrator from fansite The Realm of Mortal Kombat, “@McCarron U r absolutely right. People want an M-rated MK….dammit we will give them an M-rated MK.” And that about confirms it. I didn’t think that Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was that bad of a game, but I do agree that it lost a little bit of the Mortal Kombat conventions we’ve been used to; for better or for worse, depending on who you talk to.

After Mortal Kombat Trilogy (PSone), the 3D Mortal Kombat came along. Scorpion, Sub-zero, and the others started to sport weird, trying hard costumes. New characters came as the series progressed; most of them are just plain “whaat…”

Who creates characters and name them “Meat”, “Mokap”, “Blaze”,?!

The series, in my opinion, went downhill. I didn’t feel the “darkness and the mystery anymore.”

They should go back to their roots. Fine, motion-captured characters are cheesy during this generation of gaming, but they should come up with something new. something fresh. Not something stupid.

    :)

(I just can’t get over the fact that Superman can actually be killed by a mortal. What the f was the reason behind the creation of that game anyway?)

They should produce new IP. MK is sooooo done.
