Sega’s Classic Govellius Coming to iPhone
Now here’s a neat piece of news: DotEmu and Japanese emulation specialists (they do most of the emulation for Virtual Console games) D4 Interactive are bringing over Sega’s (well, Compile’s, but let’s not get into semantics here) Legend of Zelda clone Govellius to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Entitled Govellius: Valley of Doom, the game will be running emulated, rather than remade like the unfortunate port of Vay.
You’ll need to use softkeys to navigate the map, and yes, it’ll feel kind of awkward; but until Apple releases an amicable D-pad and button upgrade to its devices, we’ll have to make due with transparent buttons plastered on top of the playfield. Not like Govellius is that taxing a game, anyway.
Originally published in 1987 by Compile, Golvellius: Valley of Doom was the Sega Master System’s answer to The Legend of Zelda for being one of the best adventure games of the console. Back then, it was recognized for its magnificent graphics and its deep story. Most anticipated retro game of this summer; Golvellius on iPhone benefits from (at least how DotEmu worded it) a great attention on the control schemes, the ability to play it on full screen and a smart saving functionality.
“Golvellius is a wonderful addition to our license portfolio and we are pleased to bring Golvellius to the iPhone and iPod Touch for a great retrogaming experience,” said Xavier Liard, co-founder and CEO of DotEmu.
Govellius will be out worldwide sometime next month, only on the App Store.
