Tondo Man Murdered Over Counter-Strike Row
A 30-year-old Tondo man was stabbed and killed late last weekend over an argument stemming from the (ever) popular PC shooter, Counter-Strike. The victim apparently exchanged disparaging words with the suspect after losing a bet, escalating to the aforementioned act of violence.
Really sad to see violence over petty incidents such as betting over videogames still happening. Though highly unrelated to the crime, it’s even sadder to see media outlets still blaming videogame violence for these crimes; and though I could rant and fume all day about how disproportionally regressive this style of reporting is, the saddest part is that most of our local media outlets won’t ever listen. However, I’m not at all illustrating an example with the article below, in fact I thought the author did a great job on presenting the bare facts without resorting to sensationalist generalization.

Naging makatotohanan ang karahasan sa likod ng larong counter-strike matapos na saksakin hanggang sa mapatay ang isang 30-anyos na lalaki ng kanyang kapustahan sa Tondo, Maynila kahapon ng madaling-araw.
Wala nang buhay ng dumating sa Tondo General Hospital ang biktimang kinilalang si Dennis Reyes, walang trabaho ng 723 S. Trinidad St., Tondo, Maynila bunga ng mga tinamong saksak sa dibdib at sa likod.
Nadakip naman ang suspek na kinilalang si Ruby Jann Josue, 21-anyos, barangay tanod ng 663 Villa Fojas St., Tondo.
Pinaghahanap naman ang dalawa pang suspek na sina Jayson Doria, ng 2292 Lakandula Extension, Tondo, Maynila at Paulo Estopace, ng 2240 Leyte St., Gagalangin, Tondo.
Sa imbestigasyon ni SPO2 Richard Lumbad ng Manila Police District-Homicide Section, ala-1:00 ng madaling-araw nang maganap ang insidente sa harap ng Baliwag Chicken House na nasa panulukan ng Juan Luna at H. Lopez Boulevard Tondo.
Nabatid na natalo ng grupo ng suspek ang grupo ng biktima sa pustahan sa larong counter-strike sa isang computer shop at pasigaw umanong nagbayad ang biktima na nauwi sa pagtatalo.
Nakita umanong nagsisigawan ang biktima at si Doria hanggang sa magdesisyong umuwi ang una upang nagtawag ng mga kasamahan.
Subalit hindi pa man nakakalayo ang biktima ay pinagtulungan itong bugbugin ng grupo ng suspek habang dalawa sa suspek ang sumaksak sa biktima na naging dahilan upang duguang itong bumulagta.

I’ve seen cases of fistfights erupting over these matches in shops in impoverished neighborhoods, anywhere from kids bickering over what map to play to “gangsta” types who’ve put money bets on which team will win.

in such cases only players living in provinces are the only ones still hooked at this game,,
poverty at its finest..
